Breaking Silence 517 is a youth-based community service and civic leadership arts and digital social justice group. Civic leadership is a wonderful way to get your teen college and career ready. Participants will choose community based organizations to partner with to develop civic leadership skills around a service project of their vision and design. Participants will learn to develop strategies for social justice, civic leadership, and grassroots community change. Teens will also: enrich their understanding of local, state, and world events; what it means to think globally and act locally; and develop papers, presentations, and digital media productions to share with local leaders and policy makers.     (Ages 8 - 17) This class teaches students of any level how to 1) approach the guitar for optimal fret hand and fingerstyle performance technique, 2) read standard notation using simple melodies, 3) read chord charts and tablature, 4) strum basic chords and simple songs, 5) tune and care for the guitar, and 6) understand the rudiments of music theory. Each student must have their own acoustic or classical guitarand be prepared to have at least four practice sessions weekly before each lesson. Expect to pay $1909 for an introductory guitar or $300 for one that is easier to play, sounds wonderful and will last. Smaller people or children are best with smaller or even 3/4 sized guitars.
